Henrico-Based Engineering Firm Sees Rapid Growth in 30th Year of Business

Koontz Bryant Johnson Williams Announces Purchase of Second Hampton Roads Firm

Henrico-based Koontz Bryant Johnson Williams (KBJW), a leading regional engineering firm, is further strengthening its presence in the Hampton Roads market, announcing today the purchase of Virginia Beach-based Blakeway Corporation. The purchase marks the firm’s second in the Hampton Roads market in less than six (6) months.

“With our headquarters in Henrico, we have been strategically growing our business in Central Virginia for 30 years,” said Gregory Koontz, President & CEO of Koontz Bryant Johnson Williams.  “The demand in the Hampton Roads market has grown so quickly, it makes sense for us to extend our reach into that area.  With the launch of a new branch and the purchase of two well-respected firms in the past year, we are looking forward to having similar success in the Hampton Roads Market.”

KBJW’s emergence into the Hampton Roads market began just over a year ago when the civil engineering, geotechnical, environmental, and survey firm headquartered in Henrico, Virginia for over 30 years, opened a new branch in Virginia Beach.  In June, the company announced the purchase of Chesapeake-based Horton & Dodd, P.C.

A recognized name in the Virginia Beach area, Blakeway has been delivering comprehensive planning, surveying, environmental, engineering, construction management, and permitting services for more than 16 years.

“Blakeway is a natural fit, the ‘final puzzle piece’ of our growth strategy in the Hampton Roads market,” explained Jeff Hudson, Chief Strategy Officer at Koontz Bryant Johnson Williams.  “As we developed our plan, we began looking at companies in the area that have proven success and will complement the work we’re already doing in the market with our recent purchase of Horton & Dodd.”

The addition of Blakeway’s team, which has built a reputation for providing high-quality services in the Hampton Roads market, to the KBJW family further establishes KBJW’s level of commitment to the Hampton Roads area and increases the company’s ever-growing team of professional engineers, geologists, scientists, surveyors, and project managers.

“For 16 years, Blakeway Corporation has been a product of hard work, vision and a team effort from a dedicated staff,” said Valerie Blevins, Owner, Blakeway Corporation.  “In searching for the perfect fit for a Blakeway acquisition, KBJW provided not only a proven track record for success but also a commitment to the values that Blakeway highly regards.  I could not be more pleased for Blakeway to join forces with KBJW and look forward to the growth and success of the Hampton Roads office.”

In addition to the purchase, KBJW announced the company will be merging all three locations into one centralized office in the Greenbrier area, streamlining processes and ensuring clients continue to receive exceptional professional engineering, environmental, survey, and geotechnical services.

Named a 2021 Top Workplace by the Richmond Times-Dispatch, KBJW is currently hiring for the Henrico, Chesterfield, and Hampton Roads locations.  For more information about open positions, please visit Koontz Bryant Johnson Williams Inc Jobs (appone.com).
