Greening Virginia Universities and Colleges Conference

On February 29 Paul Hinson, Director of Engineering and Bob Fitz, Director of Landscape Architecture at Koontz-Bryant, attended the fifth annual "Greening Virginia Universities and Colleges Conference," hosted by George Mason University. The event was organized by Virginia Sustainable Building Network and the featured speaker was Senator John Warner, Senior Advisor, Pew Project on National Security, Energy and Climate.

The Dow closed higher than 13,000 at the end of last month for the first time since May 2008. It quickly plummeted over the next few days, but now, based on continued small good signs, it appears it will be crossed again The large intervals are said to be a key psychological threshold (or maybe barrier) for investor confidence. So the groundhog saw his shadow which means another 6 weeks of winter...But these days at Koontz-Bryant, we are far from having winter blues. In fact, many exciting things are happening...


We've just completed Phase I and II of the Christopher Newport University Master Plan parking lots. We're also happy to announce that construction is 99% complete on the two synthetic turf multi-purpose athletic fields at University of Mary Washington.


This month we are hosting a roundtable discussion with guest speakers from the DCR to help representatives from state colleges and universities better understand the effects of the new changes to the Virginia stormwater regulations. We will be posting a follow up of the event in our next newsletter so stay tuned.

Task Force Hopes to Intervene

In September 2011, Governor McDonnell announced the creation of the Governor's Task Force for Local Government Mandate Review. This five-member task force resulted from legislation introduced during the 2011 General Assembly session to review state mandates and to recommend suspension or repeal of such mandates.

One of the mandates reviewed by the task force was the increased dam regulations adopted in 2008 that raised dam safety standards and required many dams and watersheds across Virginia be brought into compliance.
